It's All About The Children It's All About The Children: Understanding Poverty in Early Childhood Programs
Authors  Dawn Adamson   and   Adrianna  Austin present  an   in-depth overview of the impact  that poverty   has    on   the   development   of    young children.   The purpose  of  the book is to deepen the   understanding   and   broaden   the  reader's knowledge about the complex issues surrounding child poverty.

Teaching  and  working  with  at-risk  children and families    requires    competent     and   empathic educators   who   are   informed   and   trained  to respond effectively to their unique needs.

Educators,  professionals and students  alike can appreciate the  insightful  compilation  of text  that will assist in developing a  program for a  diverse early childhood environment and education.

The   authors    recognize   the    numerous    child advocates  and  organizations   who  continue   to pursue  policy  makers  to  prioritize  solutions  for the  eradication of child  poverty  and the  building of peaceable communities.

The outlined potential  encounters and challenges identified within this  book have no  demographic boundaries, nor are  they exclusive to those living in poverty.

All Around Town in My Wheelchair All Around Town in My Wheelchair
Author  Cora Boecker designed this  book  as an interactive   teaching   tool    for   caregivers   and parents.   The  aim   is   to   guide  young  children through   the   physical   and   cognitive   concepts required   to    learn   how   to   safely   operate   a powered wheelchair.

The  story   is   told   by   a   young   child   using a wheelchair and the fun practicing within a pretend town.   (Set up by using cardboard boxes painted as stores, gas stations and a mailbox.)

Included  is  an  introduction  with  helpful  hints for teaching     powered      wheelchair     skills     and suggestions  in  setting  up  the  pretend  town  as referred to in the story.

Cora has worked in the early intervention field  for over ten years.  She has experience working with children   in   powered   wheelchairs  through   our profession  as  well  as  in  her  role  as  a  Family Support   volunteer  at  Canuck  Place  Children's Hospital in BC.

All Around Town in My Wheelchair is an excellent book for  all  libraries  as  it  may  be  used  as an introduction   in    educating    all   children   about wheelchair use.

A wonderful story for teaching diversity.
